Designed and qualified specifically for use on hot water systems Tested and approved to IEC 62395 and IEEE 515.1 ISO-9001 registered Proven useful lifetime in excess of 40 years 10 year warranty
Technical
Self-regulating heating cable designed to maintain the water temperature of hot water distribution pipe networks. HWAT-M is designed mainly for buildings such as apartments, offices, etc and will therefore maintain hot water pipework at a constant temperature of 55 degrees C. By being positioned on the underside of the pipe beneath the insulation the cables automatically compensate for pipe heat losses where they occur, thereby providing continuous, energy efficient, hot water temperature maintenance. Nominal voltage 230 VAC Nominal power output 9 W/m @ 55°C Maximum circuit length 100 m Circuit breaker type/size Type C/max 20A Braid coverage 80% Min. bending radius 10 mm Max. exposure temperature 65°C Max. exposure temperature (power on) 85°C Legionella thermal shock No
Options
Low Smoke Zero Halogen Self-regulating Heating Cable Raychem XL-Trace provides frost protection for pipes in areas exposed to sub-zero temperatures and ensures flow maintenance in grease waste line applications. The self-regulating heating cable range, combined with pipe insulation, prevent water pipes, fire mains, sprinklers from freezing and grease waste lines from clogging up. Developed specifically for use within commercial and residential buildings, XL-Trace's Low Smoke Zero Halogen materials ensure it is the safest solution for modern building design. For quick and easy installation, all XL-Trace cables are designed for use with the RayClic fast connection device. The cables are warranted under the Raychem Extended Warranty Program providing 10 years warranty for registered installations. Additional warranties apply when installed by a Raychem Certified Pro.

Details

nVent RAYCHEM self-regulating heating cables automatically adjust their heat output based on local pipe temperature fluctuations. When the ambient temperature drops, the conductive polymer core contracts microscopically to open more electrical pathways and generate more heat. As the pipe warms up, the core expands, reducing electrical pathways and cutting power output. This prevents overheating and allows the cables to be cut-to-length and safely overlapped.

Key Product Breakdowns
Raychem HTV Series
The HTV series is a high-temperature polymer nanocomposite cable engineered for demanding industrial environments.
  • Power Retention: Retains 95% of its power after a simulated 10-year lifespan at maximum continuous operating temperatures.
  • Lifespan: Projected design life of 30 years or more depending on the specific application parameters.
  • Safety Classifications: Features an unconditional T3 temperature rating for most outputs (T2 for 20HTV2), removing overheating risks in explosive zones.
Raychem XL-Trace (LSZH / Edge)
The XL-Trace range provides energy-efficient heat management solutions for modern building infrastructure.
  • Safety First: Built with Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) materials to maximize life-safety compliance during a building fire.
  • Pipe Compatibility: Safe for all pipe materials, including copper, stainless steel, and plastic lines.
  • Fast Installation: Integrates seamlessly with RayClic Fast Connection Modules for quick, tool-free power splices and terminations.

Crucial Installation Steps
  1. Initial Inspection: Check your layout diagrams, clear the pipe surfaces of sharp edges, and verify the physical integrity of the cable reel.
  2. Pre-Installation Test: Conduct an Insulation Resistance (IR) test at 2500V DC while the cable is still on the reel to verify internal electrical integrity.
  3. Cable Placement: Pull the cable straight along the bottom half of horizontal pipes (the 4 o'clock or 8 o'clock positions) to secure it from physical damage.
  4. Handling Heat Sinks: Wrap extra cable loops around valves, flanges, and pipe support shoes to counteract localized heat loss.
  5. Securement: Fasten the cable to the pipe structure every 12 inches (300 mm) using heavy-duty glass tape. For plastic pipes, apply aluminum adhesive tape over the entire cable length to improve heat transfer.
To help tailor this information, could you share the type of pipe material you are working with, your target maintenance temperature, and whether the zone is classified as a hazardous environment.
